Skateboarding is more than a sport — it’s a universal invitation to explore balance, courage, and community. That’s exactly the spirit behind the Bell First Roll Initiative, a new Canada Skateboard event designed to open up the world of skating to newcomers.

What Is the First Roll Initiative?

On October 25, 2025, from 2 PM to 7 PM at Evergreen Brickworks (Toronto), the community is invited to a free “learn-to-skate” event, especially aimed at youth new to Canada. The agenda includes:

  • Free lessons (2:00 – 5:00) led by Impact Skate Club, Driveway Skate Shop, and Workshop Skateboard Club

  • A demonstration featuring Olympians Annie Guglia & Fay De Fazio Ebert (4:30 – 5:00)

  • Public open skate (5:00 – 7:00) for everyone to roll freely

  • Bonus features: complimentary skateboards and protective pads, how-to workshops, art activations, and live music

Participants can sign up for free, and all support (gear, coaching, space) is provided by the collaborating partners.

Why It Matters

  • Community & inclusion: This is a powerful way to remove typical barriers (cost, gear, experience) and make skating accessible to people who might never have had a chance.

  • Cross-generational and cross-cultural connection: Especially for new Canadians, it offers a friendly entry point into a creative, movement-based community.

  • Spotlight on sport & identity: Featuring Olympians and offering demos gives newcomers role models to connect with and see what’s possible.

  • Growing the foundation: Events like this help build the grassroots base of skateboarding — expanding awareness, participation, and continuity.

If you (or someone you know) is new to Canada and curious at skateboarding, sign up for the event here.
